Neighborhood House Nursery School has a long history in Millburn. In 1903, the Neighborhood Association of Millburn Township was founded by Mrs. Stewart Hartshorn to provide nursing and social work services to local women. The organization was gifted the house at 12 Taylor Street in 1918 by Mrs. John Taylor to be used as a headquarters of the organization. In March 1920, the Day Nursery was opened to care for children whose mothers had to work to support their families - and thus, Neighborhood House Nursery School was born.
We've been a fixture in the community since 1920, serving local families from Millburn/Short Hills and its surrounding towns - including Maplewood, South Orange, Summit, Springfield, Union and more. Our upstairs offices are adorned with photos of students from throughout the years, and portraits of Mrs. Stewart Hartshorn and Mrs. John Taylor. We hope they would be proud of legacy they left and the school that continues to educate and nurture local children each day.
